Synopsis:
Smetana's The Bartered Bride depicts the state of emergency that an entire Czech village falls into during the church fair and the seemingly hopeless struggle of a young woman for her seemingly betrayed and sold love. The utopian counterworld of a traveling circus holds a mirror to the villagers' out-of-control desires, their dependencies, fears, and hopes.
Acts 1 & 2 approx. 90 minutes
Interval approx. 30 minutes
Act 3 approx. 60 minutes
