The Last Conspiracy

premiere

A legendary operetta by Moritz Eggert

The last conspiracy is a parodic ride through the abysses of today's conspiracy myths. Successful talk show host Friedrich Quant gets caught up in a maelstrom of conspiracy theories, and they're all true.

All begins with the fateful encounter with a supposed Flat-Earther, through which Quant gets more and more into the world of doubters about our reality. But every time he thinks he's revealed the truth, another incredible conspiracy unfolds. Around every corner lurks a new explanation of the world that is even more outrageous, but at the same time more real than the one before. This culminates in an increasingly burlesque and flamboyant plot involving subterranean reptilian beings, extraterrestrials, artificial intelligence, simulated worlds and even human-flesh pizzas. When Quant finally uncovers the "final conspiracy," nothing is the same as it was before. Or is it?

Hardly anyone is better suited to writing a contemporary operetta than Moritz Eggert. He builds bridges and tears down walls. His musical idiom gives the lie to all prejudices against new music. He composes undiluted music that conveys a strong message to a wide audience. In terms of structure and dramaturgy, this work combines Offenbach's early operettas with the most modern theatrical language. Regarding its premiere at the Volksoper, Eggert says: “The history of this genre is characterized by a touch of nostalgia and, of course, by entertainment. Traditionally, however, the operetta has always been linked to critical theater that deals with current topics. The last conspiracy is part of this tradition. This piece is red hot.”
