Der zerbrochne Krug - Schedule, Program & Tickets

Der zerbrochne Krug

All you need to stumble is feet.

In a small community, village judge Adam sits in judgment on himself: during his nightly assault in young Eve's chamber, he is surprised by her fiancé. Although he manages to escape out of the window unnoticed, a jug breaks in the process, as does the belief in Eve's innocence. Now Eve's mother is asking for justice for the vessel that is so precious to her. While Adam tries to cover up this nightmarish event with the most confused lies, the court councilor Walter, who has surprisingly come to the inspection, is interested in a quick clarification of the course of events.

The fact that laughing at grievances can be liberating without leading to reality-displacing cheerfulness is due to the high quality of Heinrich von Kleist's classic comedy. Even if the comedy had its world premiere more than 200 years ago, the facts dealt with in it seem almost timeless: Here a person tries with vehement audacity to secure his position of power. The truth becomes irrelevant.

After the two successful productions of Der Kirschgarten and Anna Karenina at the Theater in der Josefstadt, Amélie Niermeyer will now be staging for the first time in the Kammerspiele der Josefstadt.
