Roxy und ihr Wunderteam - Schedule, Program & Tickets
Roxy und ihr Wunderteam
In German language
Where are the times when the Austrian national soccer team was dubbed a “wonder team”? That was in the early 1930s. In March 1937, an Austrian vaudeville operetta named after it (and thanks to the composer has a Hungarian character) celebrated its acclaimed premiere at the Theater an der Wien.
But who is Roxy? The niece of a Scottish mixed pickles manufacturer who is fleeing from her own wedding and prefers to follow the Hungarian team (and especially the dashing center forward Gjurka) to the training camp at Lake Balaton. It gets turbulent when the inmates of a girls' boarding school meet the young athletes. Under these circumstances, will the men be able to win the play-off against England?
As with Benatzky's “Axel an der Himmelstür”, the Vienna Volksoper breathes new life into a lively masterpiece from the late operetta era with Paul Abraham's “Roxy and her team of wonders”.
