König Karotte - Schedule, Program & Tickets
König Karotte
In German with German surtitles
Prince Fridolin XXIV is actually a normal regent: spoiled, addictive and wasteful. But the good spirit Robin has set himself in the head to put Fridolin on the path of virtue for the good of his country Krokodyne. Unexpectedly, he gets help from the witch calabash who wants to overthrow the prince.
Members of the royal vegetable patch take over: King Carrot and his entourage made of radishes, leeks and beets. A time of trial and deprivation is supposed to teach Fridolin moderation and humility, in short: ultimately to shape him into an enlightened ruler.
The text by Victorien Sardou still looks funny, biting and explosive, peppered with literary and political allusions that appear almost contemporary.
The "comic magic opera" (opéra-bouffe-féerie) penned by the founder of the operetta is the anniversary highlight for Jacques Offenbach's 200th birthday!
Co-production between the Hanover State Opera and the Vienna Volksoper
Directed by Matthias Davids
Stage design and projections Mathias Fischer-Dieskau
Susanne Hubrich costumes
Light Michael Grundner
Choreography by Kati Farkas
Choir studies by Holger Kristen
Subject to changes.
