Rigoletto - Schedule, Program & Tickets

Rigoletto

Verdi's seventeenth opera made possible the composer's breakthrough with the two other works of the "popular trilogy" ("Il Trovatore", "La Traviata") to absolute world fame. The originally intended title "La maledizione" was banned by censorship, which "Rigoletto" also added otherwise. But Verdi fought successfully to represent the free movement of a ruler and make a disabled person to the main character. Victor Hugo, who was initially against a setting, finally had to admire the masterful musical implementation that alternated realistic scenes with popular melodies such as the Canzone "La donna è mobile".
