Since its premiere on May 25, 1870, the lively work is one of the absolute highlights of the ballet repertoire, this judgment refers both to the originating from Arthur Saint -Léon choreography as well as to the picturesque orchestrated music by Léo Delibes. Pierre Lacotte took on the work and on this occasion in 1973 supplemented the turbulent story of the weird magician and his dolls by the last painting, which had been deleted in 1872.
