Opera in one act, in German with Hungarian and English surtitles
The first part of Wagner's tetralogy is a prologue depicting the 'original sin' committed when the dwarf Alberich renounces love in order to forge the stolen Rhinegold into a ring that grants him infinite power. Wotan, the king of the gods, decides to take it from him. But what of this disturbance of the natural order that violates every law, written and unwritten?
The Hungarian State Opera has engaged Béla Balázs Prize-winning animated film director Géza M. Tóth for the mammoth artistic undertaking that begins in spring 2015: the re-imagining of the entire Ring cycle.
