Das Gespenst von Canterville

In German with German surtitles

Sir Simon is tired after centuries of haunted and would like to retire. New castle residents, a real estate agent and his three children move in; the snotty twins Leon and Noel play tricks on the ghost. Only the eldest daughter Virginia has a heart for the house spirit, which is damned by a curse to haunt ... But can she redeem Sir Simon?

Oscar Wilde's famous horror story from 1887 has been adapted several times for theater, opera and film. The librettist Michael Frowin and the German composer Marius Felix Lange have brought the material into the present; the varied opera for young and old was premiered in Zurich in 2013 and fundamentally revised for Berlin in 2014.

In the staging of Philipp M. Krenn (who was most recently successful at our house with the children's opera “Pinocchio”), the work now had its Austrian premiere.
