Hard to believe: In 1765 the notoriously diligent Joseph Haydn was reprimanded by his Prince Nicholas with the remark "to put oneself on the composition as a bit more embossed, and especially to compose pieces which one likes to play in the Gamba".

Almost as a joke, Haydn promptly complied and solicited no fewer than 126 baryton trios that the prince, who mastered the gamba-like baryton, used to play himself ...

But also a catalog of works Haydn created then - so that no one could accuse him more lack of activity! It is wonderful that Maddalena Del Gobbo, Sebastian Führlinger and David Pennetzdorfer give an insight into the prince's musical pastime with works not only by Haydn but also by his colleague, the violinist Luigi Tomasini and a presumable pupil, the Kapellmeister and later traveling baryton virtuoso Andreas Lidl. Forgotten treasures, brought to sparkle!
