Carmina Burana - Schedule, Program & Tickets

Carmina Burana

Scenic cantata in the original languages with Hungarian and English surtitles

O fortune. Everyone knows the overwhelmingly powerful opening motifs of Carl Orff's most famous work. What is less known is that Carmina Burana was not intended to be an oratorio work, but was expressly intended for the stage. This is already clear from the (originally Latin) subtitle of the piece: "Secular songs for singers and choir to sing together with instruments and magical images."
In the course of the many conductings, Tibor Bogányi gradually developed a vision for a scenic version. The creators conceived a breathtaking spectacle surrounding the three soloists, the three dancers of the Hungarian National Ballet and the monumental 120-strong choir on the stage of the Erkel Theater, with the "magical images" projected in 3D on six projection displays and LED walls for be brought to life.

Before the show, The Bordó Sárkány Old Music Order performs to get the audience in the mood for medieval tunes.

Please note: lighting effects are occasionally used which may be distracting or overly bright for some viewers.

This production is presented with the kind permission of Schott Music GmbH & Co.
