Brahms Piano Concertos - Alexei Volodin, Slowakische Philharmonie
In 2023 the International Piano Foundation Theo and Petra Lieven zu Hamburg celebrates its 30th anniversary. The Lieven Piano Foundation was founded in Brahms' birthplace Hamburg and is presenting both of Brahms' piano concertos on the same evening to mark the occasion.
The Slovak Philharmonic, conducted by Daniel Raiskin, plays in the famous Golden Hall of the Wiener Musikverein. Alexei Volodin, who has been associated with the foundation for decades, takes on the piano part from 2001-2003, where he received a scholarship, e.g. attended master classes with the great piano teachers Dmitri Bashkirov, Fou Ts'ong and Leon Fleisher. Today, Alexei Volodin teaches at the Lieven Piano Foundation as part of the Vienna master classes.
The fact that both donors moved to Vienna is another reason to perform Brahms' two piano concertos on June 18 at 7:30 p.m. in the Great Hall of the Wiener Musikverein.
It is one of the few opportunities to experience both Brahms piano concertos in one evening.
