Ballet: The Pygmalion Effect

Ballet in two acts

In Greek mythology, the unmarried king and sculptor Pygmalion falls in love with his own work because his sculpture of a woman turns out to be so perfect and lifelike.
“This ballet is a choreographed interpretation of the myth of the artist and his work, shedding light on how art and life are connected yet separate. The ballet focuses on a deprived girl who finds wealth and perfection in dance, where the elusive lightness of beauty and movement can only be achieved through hard work, while the seemingly attractive life of the stage does not save one from loneliness. Guided by a famous dancer, the heroine enters a path where changing her body seems like an entertaining experiment at the beginning, but turns into a real drama in the end,” says choreographer Boris Eifman. The tragi-comic ballet set to the virtuoso music of Johann Strauss Sohn will be presented for the first time in 2023 by the Hungarian National Ballet.

(The artists will be selected after the announcement of the 2022/2023 season.)
