Ballet: Manon - Schedule, Program & Tickets

Ballet: Manon

Kenneth MacMillan's Manon, based on Abbé Prévost's novel *Histoire du Chevalier Des Grieux et de Manon Lescaut*, is a masterpiece of the literary ballet genre and tells the love story of the title character for her lover Des Grieux, which begins passionately and ends in hopeless misery, in a world between splendor and deprivation:

"I believe that the key to Manon's behavior can be found in the poverty of her background: Manon is not so much afraid of poverty as she is ashamed of it." And that brings me to the ballet's second theme, the contrast between great wealth and great poverty in 18th-century France." (Kenneth MacMillan)
