Am Königsweg - Schedule, Program & Tickets
Am Königsweg
The young director, doll maker, player and Nestro prizewinner Nikolaus Habjan has designed dolls especially for the Austrian premiere of "Am Königsweg" by Elfriede Jelinek.
"Voted is Voted" - after the last American presidential election, the shock of the losers is as deep as the newly elected king sits high on his throne. The winners are rejoicing. With real estate, golf courses and casinos, the king has earned a fortune. From now on, he leads the fortunes of the most powerful country in the world and promises the angry people the liberation from unemployment and debt. The others should pay, he will take care of that. The choice of the king unleashes further powers and brings a terrible fate.
The latest piece by Nobel Prize laureate Elfriede Jelinek dares to look into the recent past and the near future and poses the explosive political issues of our time: How do we want to live in the future? Why do not we learn from the mistakes of the past? Why does everyone seem blinded, from the king to his people? And what have all got to do with Miss Piggy and her friends from the Muppet Show? Elfriede Jelinek has been one of the most important voices of contemporary theater for years. With its linguistically brilliant and associative text surfaces, it finds historical parallels to the phenomena of our political present, from the idols of pop culture, the heroes of the great royal dramas of Shakespeare to the ancient king Oedipus.
The young director, doll maker, player and Nestro prizewinner Nikolaus Habjan, who recently celebrated great success with the press and the public with the opera "Oberon" at the Bavarian State Opera and with "Der Streit" at the Munich Residenztheater, will be the first in the 2018/19 season Work at the Landestheater Niederösterreich. Nicholas Habjan's dolls specially designed for the production are part of this Austrian premiere of "Am Königsweg".
