Julia Kleiter SOPRANO
Markus Eiche BARITONE
Saxon State Opera Chorus Dresden
Johannes Brahms
"A German Requiem based on words from the Holy Scriptures" for soprano, baritone, choir and orchestra op. 45
»BLESSED ARE THE WHO SUFFER«
Consolation instead of terror – that is the core of Johannes Brahms' »German Requiem«. A worthy work to commemorate the destruction of Dresden 79 years ago, not only because the composer had been closely associated with the Staatskapelle as an honorary member of the Dresden Tonkünstler Association since the early 1880s. In 1869, Brahms conceived a funeral service using words from the Bible that he had compiled himself. In contrast to the liturgical model, the focus was not on the request for the salvation of the dead, but rather on the living, left behind and mourning person.
