A MUSICAL LOVE SERVICE
For the son of a music dealer, who initially worked as a simple organist until he was 42, it was a long road to fame. Only the "Enigma Variations" of 1899, which could also be heard in Dresden six years later, brought Edward Elgar his breakthrough as a composer. In 1905 Fritz Kreisler asked him for a violin concerto. The Brit promised, but hesitated for a long time. "If he writes one, it will be more of a labor of love than a business," the violinist was sure of, before he held Elgar's score in his hands in 1910 and euphorically described the work as "the greatest violin concerto since Beethoven."

Introduction to the concert 45 minutes before the start in the opera cellar of the Semperoper.
