STORY OF A FRIENDSHIP
Paul Hindemith and the Staatskapelle is the story of a friendship. Since 1926, when the opera »Cardillac« was premiered in Dresden under Fritz Busch, the music of Hesse was often on the program until the NS performance ban. After 1945, Joseph Keilberth returned to Hindemith's work. The season now opens with a classic: the viola concerto Der Schwanendreher, in which Hindemith reflected on the plight of endangered musicians in Germany in 1935 by using old folk songs. It is supplemented by Strauss's "Alpine Symphony", which the Staatskapelle premiered in 1915 during a guest performance in Berlin.

Introduction to the concert 45 minutes before the start in the opera cellar of the Semperoper.
