About Volksoper
The Volksoper Vienna was inaugurated in 1898 under the name "Kaiser-Jubiläums-Stadttheater" and was from the beginning a theater that was used as a representation hall for dramatic art. It was not until 1903 that the first opera and operetta performances took place. In 1904, the Stadttheater became the Volksoper of Vienna.
The Volksoper is the most important Viennese opera house for opera, operetta, musical comedy and ballet and offers a musical entertainment program at the highest level. The Volksoper is considered the only institution dedicated to opera and represents this musical genre in a colorful, complex and lively way.
The repertoire of the Volksoper Vienna ranges from The Magic Flute to Tosca, from the musical comedy My Fair Lady to the ballet Max and Moritz, without forgetting the great opera classics such as Die Fledermaus, The Merry Widow, The Circus Princess or The Flower of Hawaii.
