Richard, ugly and crippled, wants to "become a villain". His goal: to win the royal crown and become absolute ruler. To this end, he walks over dead bodies and kills family members and confidants, free of empathy or moral scruples. He, the deformed man, is surrounded by the eroticism of power and the fascination of evil: in 1593, Shakespeare created Richard III, one of the greatest seducers in theater literature, an actor-politician and cynical Machiavellian, an autocrat whose spiritual and political heirs continue to wreak havoc to this day.
