Figaro and Susanne, Count Almaviva's servants, are getting married. Full of anticipation, they prepare their sparse chamber and look forward to their wedding ceremony the next day. Count Almaviva, however, has other plans. He wants to exercise his rights and, as was customary in times of serfdom, spend the first night with his servant's bride. Figaro can only counter his master's lust for power with his wit, cunning and eloquence. A fast-paced game of intrigue, mistaken identities and disguises plunges the castle society into hilarious confusion and confusion.

Beaumarchais' comedy was already considered a political scandal in 1784. The great Austrian author and playwright Peter Turrini rigorously rewrote it in 1972: as a black grotesque that makes you laugh out loud. Turrini poses the question: What happens when comedy can no longer save us? How do we look today at an elite that is perverting the women under its control?

Anna Stiepani, who was named Young Director of the Year in 2025 by the theater magazine "Theater heute", makes her debut at the Kammerspiele of the Theater in der Josefstadt with this comic and relentless piece.
