Concerts in the Karlskirche
Mozart Requiem
In the early summer of 1791, Mozart received the commission to compose the "Requiem" from a mysterious "gray messenger". It became one of his most impressive works and was to be Mozart's last composition. Numerous legends and myths surround the Requiem - Mozart is said to have sung the moving "lacrimosa" on his deathbed.
The performances in the Karlskirche with around 40 musicians are based on the size of the first performance. You will experience concerts that correspond to Vivaldi's and Mozart's time in terms of ambience, sound and interpretation. Mozart can hardly be experienced in Vienna in a more authentic, profound and "real" way.
Vivaldi's Seasons
When Antonio Vivaldi moved to Vienna in 1740 - three years after the completion of St. Charles Church - he must have admired this extraordinary sacred building. For Vivaldi himself, his stay in Vienna was unfortunate. The once famous composer died impoverished here on 28 July 1741 and was buried just a few meters away from St. Charles Church in the cemetery known as the "Spitaller Gottes-Acker". His grave - like Mozart's - has not been preserved.
Experience our now legendary performances of Vivaldi's famous violin concertos in the rousing interpretation of the "Orchestra 1756" on baroque instruments.
