The only thing that stays the same is that everything always changes. And we hate these changes. "It's always been like this!" is our best argument. And: "Everything used to be better!" while "everything is getting worse these days!". Wait a minute!?!? Knots in the brain! Because: "If it was always like this and everything used to be better, then everything should be great now!" Or it has always been the case that everything was always better in the past. So when was everything good? Never? Where are we supposed to get the hope that things will finally get back to the way they never used to be? One thing is clear: if we want things to stay the way they are, a lot has to change. But hasn't nothing ever actually changed? Peace, equality, freedom, environmental protection - all the New Year's resolutions of human history.
