Love, jealousy and the chaos of living together: in the small harbor town of Chioggia, all it takes is a harmless flirtation to shake up a whole web of relationships. Misunderstandings ignite, rumors spread, and a teasing quarrel turns bitterly serious. Men and women, fiancés, sisters and rivals become entangled in a web of suspicion, pride and wounded honor.

In "Krach in Chioggia", written in 1761, the comic poet Carlo Goldoni uses his great knowledge of human nature to depict a community in which everyone knows everything about each other - or thinks they do. Behind the comedic surface of the play lies a precise look at social roles, gender images and power relations. In Nuran David Calis' production, the piazza of Chioggia becomes a co-working space in which the social fabric dissolves under the pressure of constant accessibility and the absurdity of office hierarchies, and the conflicts gain momentum through the mechanisms of digital communication.

"The Office" meets commedia dell'arte - but as a fast-paced ensemble piece, "Krach in Chioggia" is more than just a cheerful tale of mistaken identity. It shows how quickly community can topple over, whether in an 18th century fishing village or between desk islands and messenger groups.
