Johannes Brahms: String Sextet in G major op. 36
Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky: String Sextet in D minor op. 70 "Souvenir de Florence"

Chamber music with a star cast has long been a cherished tradition at HERBSTGOLD. This time, Julian Rachlin has assembled a select group of soloists for Johannes Brahms and Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky: Brahms' String Sextet No. 2 is both an intimate and particularly sophisticated counterpart to the orchestrally conceived Sextet No. 1, which was performed at the last edition of the festival. And Tchaikovsky's no less precious Sextet in D minor has become famous as "Souvenir de Florence": The composer had worked on his opera "The Queen of Spades" in a Florentine hotel in 1889/90 and finally remembered the impressive night-time moods there back home in Russia and transformed them into music: World and solitude in harmony.
