Description
Where love, confusion and music meet, the unmistakable magic of operetta unfolds.
Carl Zeller's DER VOGELHÄNDLER, first performed in Vienna in 1891, is one of the most popular works of the genre - a cheerful, heartfelt and at the same time touching story about longing, pride and the search for happiness.
At the center of the story is the resolute postwoman Christel, who wants to marry her beloved Adam, the charming Tyrolean bird dealer. But the road to a happy ending is rocky: differences in status, misunderstandings and the sophisticated intrigues at the princely court threaten to separate the lovers. Only when both learn to trust their hearts does the web of vanities, masquerades and confusion unravel - and true love triumphs.
Zeller's music sparkles with joie de vivre and a wealth of melodies. Hardly any other work combines rural freshness, Viennese charm and subtle irony so effortlessly. Evergreens such as "Ich bin die Christel von der Post", "Wie mein Ahnl zwanzig Jahr'" or the immortal "Schenkt man sich Rosen in Tirol" have enchanted generations of operetta lovers.
DER VOGELHÄNDLER transports you to a cheerful, idyllic world in which the heart sets the pace and music builds bridges between people. In the incomparable atmosphere of the Sommerarena Baden, the piece unfolds its very special magic - light, lively and full of summery operetta joy. A work that shows: Where music resounds and hearts sing, love always finds its way.
