Nicholas Ofczarek and Tamara Metelka read, Nikolai Tunkowitsch plays the violin

In a version by Tamara Metelka

At the beginning of 1920, the then 23-year-old Milena Jesenská approaches the older, previously unknown writer Franz Kafka in Prague's Arco artists' café and asks him if she could translate his stories into Czech. Over the course of the year, this encounter develops into an intimate love affair, which mainly takes the form of an intensive exchange of letters. During this time, there are only two personal meetings - four days in Vienna and two days in Gmünd in Lower Austria.
The evening attempts nothing less than a dramatic reconstruction: Kafka's letters to Milena have been preserved, but Milena's letters to him were most likely burned at her request.
