Only a few days separate Theseus, the ruler of Athens, and Hippolyta, the Amazon queen whom he has defeated in battle, from their wedding. Hermia is to marry Demetrius on the same day, as ordered by her father. But in desperation, she flees into the nearby forest at night with her lover Lysander, followed by Demetrius and Helena. There, the four of them soon find themselves in the magical world of the fairies and in the middle of the bitter marital dispute between the fairy king and queen Titania and Oberon. With the help of a magic flower and the goblin Puck, Oberon plots revenge on Titania: an absurd game of confusion begins with multiple changes of partners through the forest.
