The performance consists of about 20 pieces that move swiftly from one legend, region, or dynasty to the next. The themes range from the elegance of the ladies of the Tang court to the heroic deeds of brave generals on the battlefield, and from the timeless philosophical works of Laozi to spectacular scenes from magical realms. The performance transports the audience to a magical world.

Shen Yun, a New York-based classical Chinese dance company, presents traditional and spiritual culture. Classical Chinese dance has been passed down over millennia within the imperial court, ancient Chinese theater, and opera. Enriched by the profound wisdom of each dynasty, it has evolved into a complete dance system. Its characteristic movements and rhythm are expressions of traditional aesthetics and inner feeling. Shen Yun’s orchestra harmoniously blends the beauty of ancient Chinese instruments with the grandeur of a Western orchestra. With its deep spiritual roots and positive worldview, traditional Chinese culture was suppressed in China by communism. Today, Shen Yun, based in New York, keeps this precious heritage alive on stage. Shen Yun is not allowed to perform in China.
