The hands are running backwards, the balloon is ready to take off: Bernhard Paul's Circus Theater Roncalli is ready for the big anniversary tour to celebrate the 50th birthday of "Europe's most admired circus" (Herald Tribune Washington).

Opening the door to the future

Bernhard Paul and his team have prepared a veritable firework of ideas for the 50th anniversary. "The program is not intended to be a best of or a poetic and dreamy look back, but to open a door to the future!" says the Roncalli founder and circus director. The beloved Roncalli flair and the courage to innovate will remain: "Strengthened by the experiences of the Roncalli idea's 50-year lifespan, we are embarking on the anniversary tour with vigor and passion. - Let us surprise you!"

The journey to the rainbow

On May 18, 1976, Roncalli celebrated the world premiere of "The Greatest Poetry in the Universe" and also toured Austria with it. It made guest appearances in Vienna, Graz and Salzburg, among other places, where audiences were able to experience the unique mixture of theater, clowning and dream world for the first time. But it was the premiere of "The Journey to the Rainbow" on June 4, 1980 in Cologne that established its legendary success. Roncalli is a poetic alternative to the circuses of the time. Born in Lower Austria, Bernhard Paul is celebrated as an innovator in the art of circus. He focuses on the overall staging. In the following years, the circus expands, can hardly save itself from visitors, makes guest appearances at the invitation of cultural offices and theater festivals and travels to Moscow, Seville, Copenhagen and New York as a cultural ambassador for the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. Today, Roncalli stands for much more than just circus. The live entertainment company is admired and awarded worldwide for its extraordinary show concepts and worlds of experience.

Roncalli's next generation

However, Roncalli's anniversary in 2026 is not just a celebration of the life's work of its founder Bernhard Paul. The next generation, Vivian, Adrian and Lili Paul-Roncalli, have long been waiting in the wings. The anniversary year will also be an opportunity for them to present their vision for the dream factory to the world.
