Jesus Christ Superstar - the only rock opera by Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber with lyrics by Tim Rice was and is a milestone in musical theater literature and one of the biggest musical successes worldwide.
Since its premiere in 1971 and above all through the legendary film adaptation in 1973, Jesus Christ Superstar has become a recurring musical hit that has thrilled millions of audiences worldwide - and continues to do so today. Unique songs such as I don't know how to love him, Gethsemane or Heaven on their minds are hits that are familiar to all of us. Tim Rice's lyrics are based on the liturgy and, together with the immortal music, allow the audience to immerse themselves in the life of Jesus of Nazareth in a highly emotional way.

Lukas Perman first brought the rock classic to the stage in 2024, and due to its great popularity, it was revived in 2025. Next year, this unique piece will now be staged in a new aesthetic! The popular stars Drew Sarich and Serkan Kaya are celebrating a reunion after many years as Jesus and Judas on one of Vienna's biggest stages. The two top-class artists last appeared together in this masterpiece in 2008.

Star cast 2026 - the revival of a dream team: Drew Sarich & Serkan Kaya

The title role of Jesus in this staged concert performance is played by the celebrated Jesus interpreter Drew Sarich.
The US-American has been based in Vienna for many years and is known internationally from numerous leading roles in German-speaking countries (Hair, Tanz der Vampire, Rudolf, etc.) as well as a West End and Broadway star.

The role of the antagonist Judas is interpreted by musical and TV star Serkan Kaya.
Viennese audiences remember him best as the legendary Lucheni in Elisabeth, as Galileo in We will Rock you and from earlier concert performances of Jesus Christ Superstar as Judas. In recent years, he has advanced as an actor and TV star on German television and has received several awards, including the Grimme Prize and the German Acting Award 2021.

The musical direction is in the best hands with Christian Frank. He has been established in Vienna for years as an outstanding expert in the genre. The 11-piece band consists of selected professionals and guarantees musical excellence.
