When chance doesn't lead to success in matters of love, sometimes a little extra push is needed. Because, according to the motto of widowed matchmaker Dolly Gallagher Levi: "Love needs all the help it can get!" But what if the matchmaker herself wants to get hitched? Then chaos is inevitable! Instead of confessing to the grumpy but upright Horace Vandergelder that she has her eye on him, Dolly tries to set him up with two other candidates. To make matters worse, Vandergelder's employees, his niece and her rebellious boyfriend interfere in their already complicated love affairs. Even Dolly starts to sweat.

With 2844 performances, Hello, Dolly! had one of the longest and most successful seasons in the history of US entertainment theater. The musical also swept the Tony Awards, winning a total of ten of the coveted trophies. Now the hit musical can be seen again at the Volksoper. In the new production at the Volksoper, director Martin G. Berger and filmmaker Jakob Brossmann ask what makes (love) relationships work, how to stay happy together and how relationship concepts have changed.
