Kabarett Simpl
The Simpl is a cabaret in Vienna's Inner City that opened in 1912 as the Simplicissimus beer cabaret. In the 1920s and 30s, it produced cabaret greats such as Fritz Grünbaum and Karl Farkas. To this day, it is one of the most successful and important cabaret stages in Vienna.
Opened in 1912 as the Simplicissimus beer cabaret, it soon became known to the Viennese as the "Simpl". A colourful program of chansons, piano improvisations and artistic performances made the theater one of the most popular cellar theaters in Vienna.
A characteristic and unmistakable element is the red curtain, which has been familiar to Austrian television audiences since the 1960s. First Fritz Grünbaum, later Karl Farkas, then Martin Flossmann and since 1993 Michael Niavarani appeared in front of it to announce the actual program with mostly topical punchlines after an opening number
