Wiener Sängerknaben - Schedule, Program & Tickets
Wiener Sängerknaben
As "ambassadors" of Austria and its musical culture, the Vienna Boys' Choir is known all over the world. Their repertoire ranges from folk songs and Viennese waltzes to the most delicate art songs.
Probably the most famous boys' choir in the world has a long tradition: boys have been singing in the Vienna Castle Chapel since the thirteenth century. In 1498, Maximilian I moved his court and chapel to Vienna. Musicians such as Mozart, Salieri and Bruckner worked at the Viennese court; Joseph Haydn, Michael Haydn and Franz Schubert sang as boys in the court chapel.
Today there are around 100 Vienna Boys' Choirs between the ages of 9 and 14, divided into four choirs. Together, the choirs give 300 concerts a year in front of almost half a million spectators all over the world.
What makes the Vienna Boys' Choir so special, their charm and mischievousness, can be experienced up close at the MuTh. At the Friday Afternoons, which have already become an insider tip, the choirs show insights into their rehearsal work and their latest repertoire, from motets and art songs to world music and pop. In the second part of the program, they perform works for choir and orchestra from Vivaldi to Mozart, as well as waltzes and polkas by Strauss and Lanner, together with the Camerata Schulz. And you can also look forward to one or two musical surprises.
