Ensemble 1756 is the chamber music line-up of the "Orchester 1756", which was founded in Salzburg in 2006. The use of these "original instruments", the intensive study of the stylistics and rhetoric of the 18th century as well as well-balanced instrumentation based on historical specifications create the special authentic-classical sound of this ensemble. The continuous rehearsal and concert activities in the Karlskirche in Vienna result in a uniformity and homogeneity that is rare among baroque orchestras.
Vivaldi's Seasons
When Antonio Vivaldi moved to Vienna in 1740 - three years after the completion of St. Charles Church - he must have admired this extraordinary sacred building. For Vivaldi himself, his stay in Vienna was unfortunate. The once famous composer died impoverished here on 28 July 1741 and was buried just a few meters away from St. Charles Church in the cemetery known as the "Spitaller Gottes-Acker". His grave - like Mozart's - has not been preserved.
Enjoy wonderful classical music in the magnificent Karlskirche in Vienna.
