It is an idiosyncratic mix that Michelle Gurevich has been presenting to us for decades. The Canadian-born singer's music combines French chanson with Russian light music and is infused with pain, torn humor, Lynch-esque atmospheres as well as deep melancholy and melodrama. On her seventh studio album "It Was The Moment" (2024), she deals with the death of her mother as well as the loss of her own sanity.
Michelle Gurevich - formerly also known as Chinawoman - is strongly influenced by her Russian origins and is often categorized as an indie artist of the slowcore and lo-fi pop genres. With regularly sold-out shows in cities such as Istanbul, Berlin, Warsaw and Athens, she has created a unique niche for herself, connecting the Eastern European diaspora with the Berlin queer scene - and uniting as fans all those who have a penchant for the melodramatic ballads of Charles Aznavour, Zeki Müren and Nikolai Slichenko.
