One of the most important saxophonists of our time makes his Konzerthaus debut: Kenny Garrett. As a young musician, he played with greats such as Duke Ellington, Freddie Hubbard, Woody Shaw, Art Blakey and Miles Davis. Garrett shaped an entire generation of saxophonists with his unmistakable sound. He brings a deep connection to soul, blues and spirituality from his native Detroit - musical roots that have shaped his career to this day.

The spirit of his musical ancestors

With his homage "Sounds from the ancestors", Kenny Garrett now pays tribute to his musical ancestors such as John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Aretha Franklin, Ella Fitzgerald, Sly Stone and Marvin Gaye. But instead of imitating them, the jazz musician lets their spirit speak through his own compositions. As a result, his music sometimes sounds funky, sometimes soul-jazzy, sometimes spiritual, but always multi-layered and lively.
