Ballet: Onegin
Restless dandy recognizes his great love too late in a bourgeois woman. Torn letters. Destroyed lives.
With his adaptation of Pushkin's verse novel Eugene Onegin, John Cranko created a masterpiece of narrative ballet and one of the most famous story ballets of the 20th century. The love story of the young woman Tatyana and the anti-hero Onegin, which ends in misfortune, is set by master choreographer John Cranko to various works by Tchaikovsky, but not to his opera Eugene Onegin. The emotions and passions of his characters, as if viewed through a burning glass, become the driving force behind his dramaturgy, which is told solely through dance.
