Ballets by Eno Peci and Alberto Alonso

In a new creation, Eno Peci examines those moments before a decision that are characterized by doubt, pressure and restraint. Burden Loops is not about finding the "right path", but about life in a state in which the decision itself becomes a test of endurance. The dancers also find themselves in a moment of pause in their movement vocabulary - between expectation and uncertainty, the urge to move and a lack of orientation. Their bodies become a means of expression for the tension between a call to action and an uncertain outcome.

"Sometimes I thought: Why did Bizet write an opera? It must be dance!", said the legendary prima ballerina Maja Plisetskaya about the work that she herself was once to dance in a creation by Cuban choreographer Alberto Alonso and celebrate true triumphs with.

Alonso choreographed a truly expressionist choreography to an arrangement by Rodion Shchedrin, whose percussive and pointed instrumentation gives Bizet's composition a new temperament. Set in a bullfighting arena, whose animal symbolism Alonso combines with the strength and power that characterizes Carmen, the choreographer concentrates entirely on a woman who wants to live independently. The stage thus becomes the setting not only for a love triangle, but also for an existential struggle for freedom, passion and self-determination.
