Book by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse
Based on the novel "The Trapp Family" by Maria Augusta Trapp
German by Heiko Wohlgemuth and Kevin Schroeder

In German with English surtitles

"A musical comes home" - a musical with heart has returned to its Salzburg setting. . Maria loves the mountains, singing and dancing - and would like nothing more than to become a nun, but she is sent as a governess to the children of the widowed Captain von Trapp ... To mark the 60th anniversary of the world-famous film, the Salzburg Landestheater is bringing this successful production back into the repertoire.

The musical by Richard Rodgers (music), Oscar Hammerstein II (lyrics) and Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse (book) premiered at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre in New York on November 16, 1959. Based on the musical, the film of the same name starring Julie Andrews was made in 1965, partly at the original Salzburg locations - it has so far reached 1.2 billion viewers around the world.

The production by Andreas Gergen and Christian Struppeck has exceeded all expectations with its precise and loving characterization and its kitsch-free approach and has long since become cult.
