The wedding of the servant couple Figaro and Susanna is imminent, and everything could be so beautiful - if it weren't for the love-crazed Count Almaviva, who has been stalking Susanna for a long time, as well as the vengeful Doctor Bartolo and his housekeeper Marcellina, who all want to prevent the wedding. After numerous intrigues, Figaro and Susanna, with the help of the Countess and thanks to an ingenious revenge plan, finally succeed in defeating Almaviva with his own art of seduction and (re)uniting all the rightful couples in the end.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro, first performed at the Vienna Court Theatre in 1786, is the first of the three Mozart da Ponte operas which, despite its fast-paced comedy-like plot, already reveals the rebellious ideas of the French Revolution. In his production of Figaro, director Johannes Erath invites the audience on a journey through the different eras of theater history, from the commedia dell'arte to the modern era.
