But together with saxophonist Asya Fateyeva, the lautten compagney BERLIN shows how sound worlds can be combined across the centuries. Purcell's baroque melodies, once the epitome of English musical tradition, meet the inventive spirit of the Beatles, whose songs shaped the pop culture of the 20th century. The saxophone, invented in 1846, brings a new timbre to the historical instruments and builds a bridge between the two worlds.
