"When Nils Strunk throws himself into his plays, he not only does so with skin and hair, but also dives down to the bottom to bring previously buried things to the surface," writes buehne-magazin about the multi-talented actor, musician and director, who has been a member of the Burgtheater ensemble since the 2021/22 season. And so, in this stage adaptation of Stefan Zweig's "Schachnovelle", conceived together with Lukas Schrenk, the grandiose mime also shows himself in top form for two hours: he declaims, dances, plays the piano and moves the scenery back and forth. The brilliant solo and the rapid role changes are literally written for him and show Zweig's 1941/42 novella about power, powerlessness, fame and the weaknesses and strengths of the human spirit in all its gripping topicality.
