"The sound of a piano has [...] something magical about it. No artificial intelligence will ever replace it," said Seong-Jin Cho in an interview with the Berliner Philharmoniker, with whom he was Artist in Residence in the 2024/25 season. The piano recital by the Korean pianist, who won the International Chopin Competition in 2015 and began his great career in 2017 as a "stand-in" for Lang Lang, promises to be a highlight. In addition to the five-movement "Faschingsschwank" by Robert Schumann, which fits in with the festival motto, Schoenberg's first major twelve-tone work and Bach's Partita BWV 825, which is considered one of the special pieces from his oeuvre, Cho will perform another piano magician in the second half of the concert: Frédéric Chopin. Chopin devoted his entire life to the waltz genre and created a broad spectrum of such short compositions, from virtuoso gems such as the "Grandes Valses Brillantes" to popular strokes of genius such as the so-called "Minute Waltz". Parade works for the internationally acclaimed exceptional musician!
