Martynas Levickis takes the audience on an exciting musical journey across the Atlantic and back again. The accordion star shares Lithuanian roots with Philip Glass and Aaron Copland - both sons of Lithuanian immigrants - and an enthusiasm for jazz with the American George Gershwin. His congenial partners for this program in the Frauenkirche are the New York ensemble The Knights, led by brothers Colin and Eric Jacobsen, who brilliantly opened Jan Vogler's first festival year in Dresden at this very special venue in 2009 and have been closely associated with the music festival ever since. At the center of the concert evening - in a version arranged for accordion by the Knights - is Gershwin's famous "Rhapsody in Blue". The rousing work, in which jazz and classical music literally merge, wrote music history and has lost none of its magnetic effect to this day.
