Few orchestras are as firmly linked to the history and tradition of European music as the Vienna Philharmonic. When this exceptional orchestra now travels to Dresden with Tugan Sokhiev on the podium - recently praised again by the press as brilliant, serious and highly musical - and the charismatic US star violinist Hilary Hahn as soloist, a true dream combination can be experienced at the Kulturpalast. The musicians have two highlights of the Romantic repertoire in their luggage: Dvořák's Violin Concerto with its direct use of the violin, which was unusual at the time, was already a hit at its premiere in 1883 - a showpiece for the three-time Grammy winner Hahn. And what better way to end this evening than with excerpts from Prokofiev's "Romeo and Juliet", one of the most important ballets of all time and of beguiling melodic richness.
