An era is coming to an end: after an unprecedented career that began in the 1970s, the Hagen Quartet will retire from the concert stage in 2026. The ensemble has written string quartet history and is a great role model for many young formations. The concert by this legendary sibling ensemble (only one of the four quartet members is not called Hagen) will highlight Franz Schubert's unsurpassed string quintet, in which Julia Hagen, not only a young star who has won many prizes, but also the daughter of the quartet cellist, will take part. So it stays in the family! Joseph Haydn dedicated the String Quartet op. 54 that opens the evening to a quirky Viennese chamber music patron named Joseph Tost, who was usually bought in for the performances, and indeed he once played first violin at the premiere of this piece. Also dedicated to a wealthy patron is Beethoven's last completed composition, his String Quartet No. 16, a masterful work full of profound emotion and subtle expressiveness.
