The composer Gustav Mahler was not content with the here and now. His Second Symphony is a work of big questions: about life and death, finiteness and hope, form and ecstasy. It requires a choir, two solo voices and a huge orchestra. In Mahler's own words: "O believe, you were not born in vain! You have not lived and suffered in vain! What has come into being must pass away! What has passed, resurrect! Stop trembling! Prepare to live!" Menahem Pressler student Daniel Geiss, GMD of the Neubrandenburg Philharmonic Orchestra since 2023, sets this mantra to music. With an orchestra, by the way, that has been based in a Gothic brick church for 25 years...
