Karl Böhm was one of the greatest conductors of the 20th century. However, despite his artistic merits, the musician was also a controversial figure - due to his complicity during the Nazi era. In 1934, he was appointed to the Semperoper in Dresden as the successor to Fritz Busch, who had been forced to resign and emigrate by the Nazi regime. He became director of the Vienna State Opera in 1943, was dismissed by the Allies after the war and banned from performing, and was even appointed to this post a second time from 1955 to 1956. In "Böhm", Nikolaus Habjan, a gifted puppet maker and performer by trade, deals with this dark chapter in European music history. In an outstanding and much-acclaimed theater performance with 11 puppets, he has brought the life and work of the conductor to the stage. Habjan, who plays all the puppets, creates a fascinating psychogram - ludicrous, humorous, bitterly serious and virtuoso.
