During his time as a teacher and conductor at the Venetian girls' conservatory Ospedale della Pietà, Antonio Vivaldi penned hundreds of musical creations, including 27 cello concertos. The revolutionary novelty here was that the cello, which until then had primarily been used as a basso continuo instrument, was given a new lease of life as a virtuoso solo instrument. Four of these masterpieces can now be experienced with five cellists, who directly juxtapose two very different interpretations in this exciting late-night format in Neustadt's Martin Luther Church. While the first part of the concert will be performed on steel strings and a tuning of 443 Hz in a modern sound, the second part will be performed on gut strings and the baroque, lower tuning of 415 Hz. The audience can thus discover the different sounds in an impressive way and learn all sorts of interesting facts about the different playing styles in the presentations by cellist and festival director Jan Vogler. A unique musical journey that brings Vivaldi to life through the ages.
